Heh Copied/Stolen

Noticed you just took the file from the book Macromedia Flash MX2004 actionscript - Training from the source by Derek Franklin and Jobe Makar, from the lesson 15 files on the CD. You are quite a lazy and unimpressive person, think of something original instead of submitting work from an actionscript training book.

MEXPERTBOUND responds:

yes that fils from the book actionscript but is only play a kids.im no creatd that game so i accepte that message... i suppose creatd by:Macromedia Flash MX2004 actionscript

Awesome

I must say I'm pleased you added sounds, as soon as I started playing I cracked a huge grin at the loop, its totally OLSCOO!!!

Game is as great as ever, addictive as heroin, more original than 98% of the other portal games, and just god damn fun to play.

Still have trouble with bleeding eyes due to those thin tunnel edges, but you get used to it (and I know it can't be fixed).

Great difficulty on the game, poses a decent challenge the first time round, then a greater one in the form of topping your previous score. Theres notmuch more I can say that I havn't said already on the BBS. Just brilliant stuff, anyone who doesnt appreciate this game (3.45 WTF!?) is simply a fool.

Good luck with the next 8 games.

Denvish responds:

Thanks =) I can tell how much you like this game by the number of times your name is/was on the scoreboard.
Thanks for the good luck wishes, think I'm going to need all the luck I can get... sheesh...

Lol how did the file get so big?

How did the filesize go so much from just a few sound clips? Were you trying to play them all on best quality?

I prefer playing the KB version to my own soundtrack, but at least there wont be any more moaning little bitches asking for sound.

The loops were pretty sweet though, nice choices.

Denvish responds:

Welllllllllllll. I guess I could've dropped the size/sound quality a little, but then the game wouldn't be so 'lovely' heh

Hooray for herd!

Still a great game as I said before, beats the hell out of me how you got the wolves bodies animated during play, unless you used hell load of attach/removeMC's.

Can't think of any possible imporovements now , which is great, and the removal of the at the start of a new level really stopped the momentary lag that occured before.

Always good to see original game concepts with loads of generic crap like Indian Outlaw and various dating sims floating around, makes it more addictive to play if it requires skills that havn't already been honed in the many other varition games already out.

Must have been a fair amount of work besides the code considering drawing graphics in APIT takes a little longer.

You should be proud to be the martyr of API Drawn Pure-code games :) nice job.

Denvish responds:

Thanks for teh review mister. I posted the code for the wolf animation in the 'Beta testers wanted' thread, btw.

Decent game

A pretty generic shooter style game with a few nice touches. Liked the colour scheme, wasn't really apparent to me why you chose black& white but it worked (did you just like the word monochrome? heh).

Felt a lot more solid to play than most games of the genre, with proper hit tests and good visual effects. I'd say in the same league as stuff like RaidenX.

One of the highlights was the difficulty level, you just it just right where the game gets you hooked trying to beat it, but doesn't give in easily (and I was playing on EASY mode, man I must suck.) Enemies weren't bad, those turrets were a real pain in the ass. It played well even though the enemies flailed around mindlessly shooting.

The constant background got a bit tiresome as well, perhaps you could have replaced it every so often with an API pattern or another space style graphic.

I loved the sound, if it was all your own work then congratulations! Fitted really well with the game and didnt get on my nerves either :)

Only problem I had was that it wasn't apparent to me what those powerups were doing, was there an explaination somewhere for each one? If there wasn't then might I suggest one for ver.2?

Nicely polished game overal, well done.

Glaiel-Gamer responds:

The powerups are different weapons. Click on instructions on the main screen for a further explanation

Well thought out but...

The site has enough tutorials already, why do people keep on submitting more? With the same stuff covered in each one, seems like a bit of a waste to me.

This was an above average example though, description was decent and walkthroughs were not complecated. Had some good quality print screens as well to aid the user.

But again, the tutorial content was no different than the hundreds of others that exist, so I see little point, put your skills to other use instead.

corrosiondestruction responds:

Once again i appreciate the input, but this wasn't for NG it was so i could get feedback for my studies.
Glad you liked it though

Amazing

You can tell a lot of love went into this game. Brilliant character and level design (love Synj's blockheads)coupled with fluent animation (what frame rate was that?) and amazingly smooth gameplay with no god damn lag at all (how did you do it !?), a great combo system (which I will note is slightly pointless as there is no scoring) , tons of little features and easter eggs such as the interactive scenery and ball games, and a good variety of moves (just enough to provide satisfaction without having to strain to remember the buttons for each one).

The first boss was well designed and acted as a good warm up for the game, the second was done even better and was a good challenge (although when he pinned you to the side of the screen with his pistol it was frustrating as hell). I'll note here that the game could have been a little longer (one more boss's worth would have quenched my thirst) and at just under 3 megs I'd say that should have been entirely possible.

The difficulty of the game was quite unbalanced (which is not necessarily a bad thing, it was just a different experiance, but somehow gave the thing a more inclomplete feel by the end) with hordes of kids who don't fight back before the sudden arrival of 2 irritating ninjas followed by a hard boss man. Another idea would have been to involve the Protagonist's Dad a little more, instead of just having him in the intro + outro, as the title IS "Dad 'n Me".

Just a damn amazing and addictive game, easily one of my favorites. Well done.

P.S - Haven't seen anyone question why there are cans of propane on a kiddie's park though XD

Love these

I love trying to figure these out, i managed all except the spyroscope and the orb in this one. I prefer "Cursors of the future" for the enginuity of the effects, but this submission was far more graphically polished. Good sound, lots of style, you've inspired me to go and make my own now! Nice work.

Interesting

I don't know whether you simply used scaling along to achieve the corridor effect, but it worked really well, some very nice pseudo-3d. The game was entertaining enough, although I could see greater potential in the gameplay and graphics.

If you were to re use the game design or make another version ,you could possibly expand to include corners coupled with a dungeon map (this seems within reason and possibility), as well as decorations/props, perhaps some fountains and plants to get an Aztec theme going (this is what sprung to mind when thinking of the whole temple boobly trap premise).

A decent, fairly original game into which a fair amount of thought, consideration and design has been put. Well done :)

One of the most sophisticated games on the site.

I think its a shame that Overrun II's score is hanging at just under 4.00, It does take someone who is familiar with actionscript and has developed a game or AS oriented project to appreciate the sheer amount of effort and work that must have gone into this. It must be dissapointing to find some reviewers that are clearly just regular people on their coffee break saying that the game is repetitve, as when playing it, I found just the sense of awe at the game itself enough to keep going.

I'll comment that the backgrounds were exquisite, especially considering you created them from scratch, the soundtrack was suiting and the enemies were interestingly designed, the 3d models had both positive and negative aspects to them (they looked like they could have been from a minor's tv program, but the models helped the psuedo 3d effect work really well.

I found you comment that this would probably be you last NG submission to be rather distressing. Surely you can't throw in the towel after such a great game like this? What about Overrun 3?

All In all a simply mindblowing piece of work.

Denvish responds:

Thanks for the lengthy review. There won't be an Overrun III, I'm don't intend to take on any more projects as massive and time-consuming as this. And yeah, as I said on the BBS, the fact that Throw It did better than this is extremely frustrating.
